Our Food Program
The Problem
194 million people in India today do not have enough food to eat, the largest in any one country in the world. According to the Global Hunger Index 2020, India falls under the ‘serious’ hunger category with a rank of 94 among 107 countries.
These statistics however, do not take into account the effects of COVID-19. The resultant migration, unemployment and loss of earning members of households has pushed millions of Indians into extreme poverty and hunger.
The Solution
We believe providing regular meals to dependents in underserved communities to reduce financial burden in the short term, empowering them to become free from hunger in the long term.
Our Initiative
We are currently engaged in reaching out to the daily wage earners and underprivileged families with food, masks and soaps. With no income during nation-wide lockdown, these families lost access to the most basic necessity - food. Countless have been going without food for days and their very survival is now at risk. At Zameen Foundation, our efforts are now focused on their health and safety.
While our food kits of rations, rice, pulses, potatoes, oil, salt, wheat flour, tea, sugar and biscuits are providing them with sustenance, the masks and soaps are protecting them against the virus.
